Conference 08 overview...........

FireFit Conference 2008 – Merseyside, 1st and 2nd September 2008.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are hosting the FireFit Conference in 2008. This Conference will fall in Liverpool’s Capital of Culture Year and will co-inside with the county hosting the World Firefighter Games, at the new Echo Arena in Liverpool city centre. Merseyside shall be holding the Conference at the Liverpool South Marriott Hotel, the site of the original Liverpool Airport. The Hotel is a triumph of art deco styling and at the rear of the hotel the runway and balcony that featured in the newsreel films of the Beatles arriving back from America are still there to be seen.

The Conference is planned for the 1st and 2nd September with the theme ‘Fit for Service, Fit Communities, Fit for the Future’. This event will pick up from FireFit 2007 and will discuss the fitness standard of 42 Vo2Max and update on progress on its adoption as a standard through the Service. The Conference will also consider some other health and fitness issues affecting the Fire Service in the UK. The programme will include sessions on body fat and BMI, mental fitness for service, rehabilitating firefighters and the ‘Cool Van’ concept, and will touch on areas of youth and age, including an aging workforce with the increased retirement age in the New Firefighters Pension Scheme.

We have arranged speakers that will include Professor Kevin Sykes, the undoubted star of the 2007 Conference, and speakers from both John Moores and Hope Universities. With the draw to the city of the Capital of Culture events and the World Firefighter Games early booking would be advisable as it is anticipated that this will be the best attended FireFit Conference to date. The booking system will be announced in the near future and details will be sent to all Fire and Rescue Services, and posted on both the Merseyside FRS and this website. If you wish to be on a mailing list please email Paul Blanchard-Flett

We look forward to seeing you in September.

FireFit Annual Conference Bristol 2006
Hosted by Avon Fire and Rescue Service.

The Bristol Royal Marriot Hotel, Bristol over Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th June 2006.

This years Conference theme is:

Managing Attendance - the physical and physiosocial challenge.

This years FireFit conference is being hosted by Avon Fire and Rescue Service at the Bristol Royal Marriot Hotel. In the centre of the beautiful city of Bristol.

The theme of this year's conference is based on the very topical Performance Management issue of Attendance Management and will attempt to address the many different considerations organisations need to contemplate in pursuing reductions in absenteeism and managing injury and sickness.

A wide range of speakers have been assembled to look at the different aspects of health and fitness and the impact a holistic approach can have on workforce motivation and welfare management.

The appeal of such a topic has I feel a wide target audience. I believe that principle officers, senior managers, human resource managers, equality advisors, service medical advisors, occupational health officers and advisors as well as fitness advisors and instructors would all find the the conference of particular interest and assistance.

Finding the right tools to tackle improvements in Performance Management is something I believe we all see a value in. This years conference will see an interesting array of techniques and protocols that will I'm sure improve any organisations approach to managing attendance.
